The governor of Ala. acts as the commander in chief of the State Militia. This series contains one letter to Gov. O'Neal relating to the Militia and military affairs. The letter is from R.C. Dunn, adjutant general of the U.S. War Department in Washington, D.C. The letter discusses the request of Second Lieutenant John B. McDonald, 10th Cavalry, to be detailed at the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Ala., and that the request was denied by the secretary of war.
